Catherine Aldrete-Morris lives in Adelaide, South Australia and was born in San Antonio Texas. Catherine is a visual artist and is passionate about the importance of art in everyday living as a means of connecting past cultural imagery with the present, to new generations of imagination. She has a diverse career background from alternative medicine to the arts, including pattern-making for fashion before turning her hand to ceramic ware production; leading to the discovery of kiln-forming glass and exhibiting locally, nationally and internationally. Catherine’s glass forms are steeped in abstraction. The objects have evolved from flat-ware; bowl-like vessels, sculptural verticals to the current representations. It is Catherine’s intention to produce structures that stimulate a personal relationship to the work. The aesthetic is predominantly block- patterned colour, texture and multiple layers, which counter pose the simplicity of the object.
