Tanja Hawker

Visionary mosaic artist with a strong focus on creating environmentally sustainable ethical art.

A self-taught mosaic artist with a passion for utilising recycled materials, community engagement through art, teaching, sense of identity and working with the disenfranchised. As a result my work is a mixture of the old and the new focusing on creating sustainable environmentally ethical art.

I like to work organically, often deviating from traditional methods. I have a broad range of skills in visual art, utilising both traditional and digital techniques.

The Border Project

I AM NOT AN ANIMAL

A production by The Border Project in association with the 2012 Adelaide Festival and Adelaide Zoo.

Humanity is defined by its desire to transcend its animal nature. Yet our animal instincts still govern much of human behaviour.

During the 2012 Adelaide Festival, I Am Not An Animal transformed the Adelaide Zoo into an extraordinary installation performance.

For the first time, the animals of the Zoo became the subjects in a work of art, engaging with built objects, environments and human co-performers.

The Botanical Art Group of the Friends of the Botanic Gardens Adelaide

We meet weekly in the Goodman Building of the Botanic Gardens Adelaide to paint, draw and discuss the natural world. We work across various media, at differing skill levels; we learn from each other but we all have a love of plants in common.

Our purpose is to promote the beauty and importance of botanical art and the essential need for diversity in our natural world.

The Saxoffender

I developed the ability to paint very fast from life, in conjunction with my musical knowledge, and my legal background, to create ‘performance portraits’. I seek to capture more than just a likeness, but the whole performer, the atmosphere, a sense of the music, the notion that live performance of any sort is a risk, and a one off experience, to be celebrated. I do this for philanthropic reasons.

THE SUN AND THE SKY

THE SUN AND THE SKY is a four-piece indie synth rock band from Adelaide. They’re like The Killers with a good dose of Placebo, but less eyeliner – so far! Attitude Magazine have described them as `the rock'n'roll version of the Presets.'

Timothy Wallis

My work consists of images taken in India, Nepal and Australia. I studied illustration and graphic design at the University of South Australia and there discovered photography. India, my home of 10 years, is my favorite photography destination. I've always been passionate about street photography and the experience of interacting with new people. Digital photography has liberated me from the need to be careful. The immediacy of image creation allows me to assess the results and try new approaches on the spot before the moment passes.

Tony Hannan

For the past 30 years I have worked across art forms, mostly in community.
Often in professional performance. Almost always in non traditional spaces outdoors.
I have developed skills in designing and making giant puppets, parade floats, banners, flags, screen printing, lanterns, stilts, nylon and polythene large inflatables, fire murals and articulated fire puppets, clay animation, environmental installation and community event design. We is always greater than me.
